About Dachshunds
The Dachshunds origins can be traced as far back as the 15th century. Some experts think that the Dachshund dates back to antiquity and was depicted in Egyptian Reliefs. While that may be true, it is widely accepted that Germans were largely responsible for the development of the dog we know today. Their unique shape was developed to hunt badgers. "Dachshund" Translated means "Badger Hound."

His distinctive build makes him ideal for digging, entering tunnels and fighting badgers. Standard size Dachshund was developed to hunt badgers and other burrow dwelling animals, while the miniature Dachshund was bred to hunt smaller animals, such as rabbits.

Because of their long, narrow bodies, they are often nicknamed Weiner dog or sausage dog.
Dachshunds are intelligent, clever dogs with an independent streak. They are affectionate, loving and devoted to their family. "the dachshund is clever, lively and courageous to the point of rashness, persevering in above and below ground work, with all the senses well-developed. Any display of shyness is a serious fault." ~AKC
